Bryan Tucker is coming down for the NC Arts Festival this month for some standup comedy and perhaps some improv.

Bryan Tucker is a stand up comedian and sketch actor, but he’s mostly known as a comedy writer. Bryan has written for some of the top TV sketch shows in the past decade including Saturday Night Live, The Chris Rock Show and Chappelle’s Show.

A sketch that Bryan wrote for Chappelle’s Show (“The Race Draft”) was picked as #12 on Nerve and IFC.com’s “50 Greatest Sketches of All Time.”

Before he broke into TV writing, Bryan was a performer who played over 500 shows around the country as a stand up and as a player in the sketch/ improv group Selected Hilarity, a group founded at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Bryan is in his fourth season of Saturday Night Live and he still does stand up around New York, where he lives with his wife and two children.

DSI (Dirty South Improv) produced the first Comedy Festival in North Carolina so that local audiences and students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill might benefit from the experience of workshops in the art of Chicago-style improvisation. That first festival welcomed three college improv groups, 27 improvisers, and two teachers (Beth Melewski and Zach Ward) for an incredibly successful festival in March 2001. The draw was limited but the groups came from three different states. It was decided that the festival would become an annual event and a Southern comedy staple was born.
